Japanese Teaching Topic - THE BODY

Teaching ideas, art and craft, flashcards, games, lesson plans, songs, videos, useful websites, worksheets on the Japanese teaching topic THE BODY からだ.

Activities in class

Magazine mania
Equipment: magazines, scissors, glue,  blank paper (or student notebooks).
What to do: After reviewing body parts, give each student a few magazines. Students find and cut out the body parts being studied.  Once all the body parts have been cut out, they glue them onto the blank paper (or in their notebooks) creating a 'monster' like human.  They then label in Japanese each body part.  EXTRA: Write a short introduction including name, age, grade, nationality etc. and present their monsters to the rest of the class.

Games in class

Label the model
Divide the class into groups of three or four and choose one of them to be the "model". Give each group a set of the body part cards.  (Print off the body part cards, put sticky tape on the back of each.) Play a lively song.  By the end of the song (or about 2 to 3 minutes) stop the students.  Tt checks the words on the models. One point for each correctly labelled body part.  The team with the most points wins!

Shape the Statue
Get two volunteer Ss to stand at the front of the class.  One of the Ss tells the other to move certain body parts (in no particular identifiable shape).  Eg. Migi te o agete kudasai. 右手をあげてください。 Continue giving instructions.  Once the shape is complete then the rest of the Ss guess what the statue might represent.  Extra: Each Ss in the class tells the statue one movement. Or, Ss write a story based on the statue. Or, each student writes down all the movement instructions that were given to create the statue.
